Recently I’ve been having trouble burning CDs. I’ve been putting off routine archiving because I was planning to buy a new computer with a DVD burner. Now just when all my hard drives fill up, I find out that it’s a hardware failure. Of course, right at the start when I did a hardware test the problem was still intermittent, leading to a lot of pointless software troubleshooting. Sheesh.
Anyhow if you’re troubleshooting a Yamaha CD-burner (especially a Yamaha CRW8824FXZ), you might appreciate the links I eventually unearthed:
- Yamaha’s CD-R troubleshooting guide
- Contains
Quick Step Trouble Shooting for All the Yamaha recorders
(well, you get the idea) that explains how to test the drive so you can determine if it’s a hardware error or not. - CRW8824FXZ LED meanings
- A description of what the flashing lights on the front of this model CD-R mean, which you’ll need to follow the troubleshooting guide mentioned above
- Yamaha’s CD-R FAQ
- Contains troubleshooting info including technical support feedback, plus information on firmware updates, recommended software etc
- Sense Codes for CDR400
- A list of all the crazy errors that a Yamaha CD burner might spew out (ie hex codes - 4 letter/number combinations)
